Deployable Solar Arrays
The Subsystem Bottleneck: Power, Propulsion, and the End of Bespoke Spacecraft
A deployable solar-array startup, a Japanese propulsion company, and an orbital-compute infrastructure firm all closed funding rounds this week, and none of the three would call themselves competitors. Line up what each check is actually paying for, though, and the hard part of an ambitious space mission has clearly stopped being “can we get this to orbit” and started being “can we power it, move it, and keep it alive once it’s up there.”
